Meeting Your Idols?

Just a note to say something about meeting your idols?

Some people are fanatics about this! I mean yeah it would be great but sometimes I feel that it could be quite anti-climactic. I stood in the rain last July to meet Tori Amos and she never came out, so I got bored and left (yeah I'm hardcore!). Suffice to say she did come out and start signing things! Oops!

Was in Dublin in January seeing 30 Seconds to Mars and my friend Jilly and I hung around looking to see if we could meet Jared Leto - never showed lol!

Recently Kylie (see last blog) did a 4 night residency at the Odessey for her fabulous KYLIE X2008 Tour. My friend Mark was desperate to meet her and I really wasnt that fussed, there was someone else I would LOVED to have got a picture with (I'll not name names lol).

Meeting your idols then? Is it worth it? I am sure it is, a friend of mine has some kind of idol magnet and she always gets to meet them - good on her! Jammy as well, she's even met people that I want to meet! (Again I'll not name names lol).

I'm not ranting or anything, just blogging cause it's fun and it's what's on my mind at the mo! I do admire people that go for it and meet them, as it's a great memory. But then there is the other side to it.
I recently met a girl that has been follwing one of her idols around Europe! Bit too much I think? Would you not get bored after a while, seeing the same show over and over and over, and hello???? Restraining order much?
Aw well that's about it from me on this topic.... Later x

meeting "idols' is abit pointless I think, its sometimes different if they inspired you on your path in your career or something as they had a direct effect on your work and if your good thats a compliment to them, but if your just a whck job that follows them around I'm sure they just see u as that. I would feel crap approving ppl I just thought where good unless I had something worth while to say to them. like skin I wld only speak to if I cld say well done, more strong black women will follow in your footsteps into rock music which is a very white male industry hopefully and u never let yourself go poppy etc.. or nan goldin as she has had direct effect on my work and I wld love to have pint with her but no way wld I stalk any of them or wait outside concert for them with the crowd of "losers" lol, heh

I would hardly call people outside losers if they want to catch a glimpse of someone that they love for their music and talent. Some may dispute the word talent but if someone makes you feel joy and uplifted by seeing them, that's something good isnt it?

Losers are the ones that travel around the country after people, like this girl I met at Kylie for instance, she had been to all the shows since the Tour started in Paris on May 6th. And she was going to the rest of them another 23 dates to be presise!!!!! Thats a loser! lolx

Personally I probably would have nothing to say and that's the truth! I met Heather Nova once and she was lovely, just had a chat about the show and she signed my CD covers, that was nice but I didnt go out of my way to do it.

nothing wrong with meeting an idol, we all have different interests and hobbies, some people like to go out at teh weekend and get wasted and others like to be close to media figures they adore.

Being close to some one you admire can give you an adrenaline rush and feelings of over whelming love, kind of like a hit of drugs so its not realy that strange to want to be near them to get that hit.

I agree David I mean I was just thinking people like Kylie, Madonna, Skin, Robbie Williams, Pink, Bono etc etc, are just people like you and I at the end of the day. But if they make us happy and uplifted that is something that is special.

Kylie last week: She is not the best singer in the world or a talented musian, and I know she doesnt write half of her stuff, but she made me smile and made me forget the shite in the world for 2 hours..... bless her
