Gay Men, Romance and Relationships....

As a 'member' of the single gay population, I'm left wondering what my romantic options for the future are. So far, to me, it seems to be:

A) Trawl the internet and input data that specifies what length and girth I like in a man, then IM, webcam or meet personally for 1 on 1 illicits (actually it doesn‘t have to be just 1 on 1 - of course it can be 1 on any number you chose to invite!).

B) Trawl the gay scene, where not only do you have to live with the label of your sexuality any other time, you are now in a gay bar and the opening line is usually "are you a top or bottom!"

C) Visit the anonymous sex zones - saunas, parks and anywhere else where 'married' men and so called 'straight' men that will not kiss but engage in faceless anal and oral sex, get off and leave.

So what’s it to be, A, B, or C?I'm sure there are plenty more options available that I have yet to find out (I'm a pretty niaeve gay really) but to tell you the truth, maybe ignorance is bliss in this instance. What I do notice though, is that there is a distinct lack of the possibility of romance with these options. Gone are the days when two people would glance at each other and feel butterflies in their stomach. They would hesitantly approach one another, arrange to meet up and spend time getting to know each other. All the while, they found each other increasingly irresistible and harder to resist by the end of each date. When they eventually had sex, (which could be any length of time, not just what Cosmopolitan magazine recommends that month) they knew that it was something much more than friction. They desired one other.

Don't get me wrong, I have been known to have sex with people who are not life partner material (I'm hardly a virgin so there is no soap box to stand on here) but I wonder where the romance has gone? Unfortunately, it feels that I’m being unrealistic when I think that I would like to meet a guy, go for dinner and have intelligent, adult conversation, without the assumption that sex is automatically on the cards. I don’t even think this experience exists unless you explicitly state it on your gaydar or bebo profile!!!!

So is that it? Because I am a man and because I am gay, then I should resign myself to a life that consists of A, B, or C in the hope that one of those nameless cocks is attached to someone worth spending time with?! I hope not, because I’ve got to expect more for myself.

The Weather Situation!!!!

Well here we have it!  Another wonderful Northern Irish Summer so it seems!  I mean seriously why? Last year was abysmal so I was hoping that this year we would have little more than 2 weeks of good weather.  May and June have passed and now well into July and yes that's right Mr Rain Cloud is just deciding to NOT GO AWAY EVER!!!!

Just pisses me off rain rain and more rain!!  Be nice to sit in the sun and have more than one BBQ a year, were people are not killing each other over the burgers and salad in Tescos when the sun comes out!

This is a sad sad time indeed.

The 11th Doctor?

OK SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????????????????????????

With the shock regeneration cliffhanger type thingy at the end of last weeks Doctor Who (The Stolen Earth) I MEAN WHAT!!!! They kept that quiet, the image of the 10th Doctor beginning to regenerate was enough to make me scream and fall of the sofa onto the floor! Coupled with the fact that the Daleks were kinda terrifying (for once) and Davros appearing and Rose and Torchwood and Sarah-Jane and Harriot Jones and Martha Jones - HEAD EXPLODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So anyway - NO David Tennent goodbye no more 10th Doctor! Who the hell is going to fit his shoes and what if the regeneration process goes wrong and he just tells them all "screw you guys I'm off"

It's all so nail bitingly, pant wettingly exciting and yes one of the companions is going to snuff it too - I think it shall be Rose or Donna. Sarah-Jane has her own series so it won't be her, Jack can't die and Martha just is sitting on her arse in her ma's lol!

All will be revealed in 3 days time, 65 minute season finale!!!!!!

Good-bye David we loved you!!!!!!! And whoever the 11th Doctor is, they better be fucking good!

Black Art

Donna Black is a Belfast-based ‘alternative’ photographer and contemporary artist, who all her life has taken an interest in people, topics and situations that are outside the box of conformative norms.
Born and bred in Bangor Co. Down, from a young age she has looked at the world through a lens.
Projects have included may taboo subjects as:
Self Harm
Mental Illness
Homosexuality
Human Rights
Femanism
Sub Cultures
Politics
Alternative Lifestyles
Donna has also done freelance work for Diva magazine and for independent bands and songwriters in Belfast.

These are to name a few. In February Donna had her first solo show as an Artist, which was a 3 week residency in the Safe House Art Gallery in Belfast. The title was 'Dragging Ego's'.

This was a stunning exhibition that followed the life of Drag Artist Mark Bowels and his alter ego: The Fabulously outrageous Miss Felicity B. Wilde. Donna beautifully captured the transition from an ordinary man to Drag Queen through a series of portraits. A documentary was shot and you can watch it here:

I'm adding this for two reasons, One: Donna is a friend of mine and I support her work in every way. And Two: The header to my blog page includes a portrait of me that she took, therefore it is only fair that I give her a mention.

Please visit her website via the links on my blog page akablackrat.com. Donna Black is here to stay and keep your eyes open for her work in the future!!.

Meeting Your Idols?

Just a note to say something about meeting your idols?

Some people are fanatics about this! I mean yeah it would be great but sometimes I feel that it could be quite anti-climactic. I stood in the rain last July to meet Tori Amos and she never came out, so I got bored and left (yeah I'm hardcore!). Suffice to say she did come out and start signing things! Oops!

Was in Dublin in January seeing 30 Seconds to Mars and my friend Jilly and I hung around looking to see if we could meet Jared Leto - never showed lol!

Recently Kylie (see last blog) did a 4 night residency at the Odessey for her fabulous KYLIE X2008 Tour. My friend Mark was desperate to meet her and I really wasnt that fussed, there was someone else I would LOVED to have got a picture with (I'll not name names lol).

Meeting your idols then? Is it worth it? I am sure it is, a friend of mine has some kind of idol magnet and she always gets to meet them - good on her! Jammy as well, she's even met people that I want to meet! (Again I'll not name names lol).

I'm not ranting or anything, just blogging cause it's fun and it's what's on my mind at the mo! I do admire people that go for it and meet them, as it's a great memory. But then there is the other side to it.
I recently met a girl that has been follwing one of her idols around Europe! Bit too much I think? Would you not get bored after a while, seeing the same show over and over and over, and hello???? Restraining order much?
Aw well that's about it from me on this topic.... Later x

Kylie X2008

Hey all just wanted to write about the most amazing show I have ever seen (second only to Wicked of course).

Just had two amazing dates at the Odessey Arena, Belfast to see Kylie's new tour - 'KYLIE X2008'. Showcasing tracks from her latest studio album 'X' and some golden oldies from 'I Should Be So Lucky' to 'Slow'.

What can I say about the stage set up? WOW I mean wow, 6 huge screens that all move and change with lighting, props, and 8 costume changes, beautiful dancers, cutting edge sounds and a set list to die for! 27 songs sung in total!! Including the new UK single 'The One'

Miss Minogue was just simply stunning, she's back and she's here to stay. With 7 stunning set pieces that can only rival a hit broadway show!

Acts:
1 - Xelctro-Static

2 - Cheer Squad

3 - Beach Party

4 - Xposed

5 - Naughty Manga Girl

6 - Starry Nights

7 - Black vs White

And a 4 song Encore!!!!

I hope to god they release the tour on DVD!!! It's WOW WOW WOW!!!!!

Darren the Kylie fan lol x...

This is me then.....

Hey all,

Well this is me lol!

I don't really know what to say just that this is my first entry of my blog for those of you who care lol!
Recently been made single again after having my feelings shattered and my wallet and credit card thrashed! Aw well! Back to basics as Christina would say!
Just will be popping in and out of here whenever I feel like it, just to say something about how I am feeling etc etc etc..... Seems like a good idea. I want this to be a fun page with thoughts, feelings, life, loves and times. Like the header says - nothing too serious and hopefully no arguments will erupt from the things I blog about, healthy debates yes, and I'm sure the odd bitchy comment will be made but hey that's life and if people wanna do that they only show themselves up lol.
Now... How the hell do I put music on this thing....? Anyone? lol
